BCCSS Board Members Appointed

Five new Directors have been appointed by the Minister of Health to the BC Clinical Support Services (BCCSS) Society Board.  The new Directors join current members Rick Roger (Chair), Lynn Stevenson (Vice Chair), and Sabine Feulgen.

Barbara Buchanan served as Program Manager at the Occupational Health and Safety Agency for Health Care in BC, the Manager of Occupational Health and Safety for KODAK (previously Creo), and the British Columbia Institute of Technology.  Ms. Buchanan’s board experience includes the College of Optometrists of BC, the Vancouver School Board (as Trustee and Chair), the Vancouver Symphony, and the American Industrial Hygiene Association.  Ms. Buchanan holds her Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Brock University and a Certificate in Management Excellence from the Sauder School of Business at UBC.

Peter Leighton is the Chief Operating Officer at RE Royalties Ltd, a privately held, globally focused, renewable energy financing company.  Mr. Leighton has over 25 years of executive leadership experience in many facets of the energy industry including eight years as the Chief Financial Officer and subsequently, the Chief Operating Officer of Accenture Business Services for Utilities, a global back office and technology services outsourcing firm. Mr. Leighton has served on the Board of a number of non-profit organizations and was a member of the HSSBC Management Board as well as the predecessor SSO Board commencing with its inception in 2008.  Mr. Leighton holds his Bachelor of Science (Honours) from Queen's University and his Master of Business Administration from UBC.

Erwin J. Malzer is the former Business Consulting Services Partner for IBM, Vancouver and recently completed a twelve year tenure (two years as Chair) with Interior Health Authority. He was a Partner with PricewaterhouseCoopers (Vancouver), Partner with Coopers & Lybrand (Winnipeg) and the Founding and Managing Partner at Malzer & Assoc. Ltd. Mr. Malzer has been involved with numerous corporate and community organizations in a variety of board capacities.  Mr. Malzer has his Bachelor of Commerce and MBA from the University of Manitoba. He also has his CMC and FCMC as well as his ICD.D designation granted by the Institute of Corporate Directors.

David Owen is a Consultant Pathologist at Vancouver General Hospital and Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of British Columbia. Previously, Dr. Owen was an assistant professor at the University of Manitoba for the department of pathology, and a lecturer for the Saint Thomas’ Hospital Medical School at the University of London, England. Dr. Owen is an Editorial Board Member for the Modern Pathology Journal, a past member of the BC Ministry of Health GI Protocol Committee, a former director (Western Canada) for the Canadian Tumor Reference Centre, past President of the GI Pathology Society and Chair for the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons. Dr. Owen received his medical education at the Welsh National School of Medicine in Cardiff, Wales.

Richard Swift, Richard Swift, Q.C., is the managing partner of Swift Datoo Law Corporation, in Courtenay. He is currently the Chair of the Patient Care Quality Review Board for Island Health, and a member of the Consumer Council to the Board of the Ombudsman for Banking Services and Investments (OBSI). He is a former Chair of the Board of Governors of BCIT, and was one of the founding directors, and a Vice Chair, of the B.C. Land Title and Survey Authority. Mr. Swift obtained his undergraduate degree from SFU, and a law degree from UBC. A practising lawyer for more than forty years, he was awarded his Queen’s Counsel designation in 1989
